Why did you choose Cornell?
I chose Cornell because of the interdisciplinarity in the Near Eastern studies department. The diverse curriculum has offered me the invaluable opportunity to study languages, literature, history and politics across the region.
Who or what influenced your Cornell education the most? How or why?
My academic advisor, Professor Ross Brann, influenced my Cornell education the most. I remember when we met for the first time during the orientation week; as an international student I was a little anxious about adjusting to the new environment and worried about doing well in courses. Professor Brann gave me the crucial reassurance: "You are here because Cornell knows you can do it." I am grateful that he supported my decisions and pushed me further to achieve more.
How did any of your beliefs or interests change during your time at Cornell?
I am confident that I will be able to make a difference with what I have learned here at Cornell.
What are your plans for next year; where do you see yourself in 10 years?
I plan to go to graduate school and in 10 years, I hope I to be working for a non-governmental organization to bring some peace and understanding to the world, or simply make someone's life better.
